BALFOUR Arthur James - LS 1891 together with a signed postcard photograph

  • £395.00

Arthur James BALFOUR (1848-1930)

Letter Signed (“Arthur James Balfour”) to J. Glenely Grant giving advice as to the benefits of a classical education.
1 page 8vo with integral blank leaf, 4 Carlton Gardens, 30 June 1891.
Together with a glossy half-length postcard photograph of Balfour, signed by him on the light margin, the ink adhering imperfectly to the surface of the card.
Classical Education is undoubtedly an advantage in any career, but it may be bought too dearly if acquirements more directly useful in the walk of life which you have chosen are sacrificed to it.
The word “requirements” has been crossed out and corrected to “acquirements” by Balfour.
Rusty paperclip mark at the top of the letter, not touching the text.
